So Switzerland, specifically near Geneva where we were staying with family, was simply delightful. It’s just so constantly picturesque, I honestly don’t know how anyone lives there and gets any work done for staring at the mountains.
Also for all the wild swimming because Lake Geneva was a lovely dip, if a little brisk for the kids with their lack of significant subcutaneous insulation. Mostly I enjoyed the lack of sewage, which now seems to be a permanent feature of swimming in Britain. Kid A spent most of the swimming trip talking about how if there was an earthquake, Lake Geneva could have a tsunami, with me smiling and nodding and agreeing “in theory”. Kids, eh, etc.
It was my birthday while we stayed here and the kids (helped by Bruce and Jane) took me to the newly opened telepherique du Salève. While technically in France it is a strong recommend for a day out, especially in a couple of years time when they’ve finished building all the planned attractions.

This was also the point where Kid A read about the tsunami in Lake Geneva in 563AD, so I was quite relieved I never committed to telling him to be quiet and stop talking nonsense the previous day.
We left Switzerland via the scenic route through the mountains, and if anyone was ever of a mind too I strongly recommend the GoldenPass Belle Époque for pure style combined with quality mountain watching.
Oh karen what a beautiful place and so glad everything is going so well for you ! Happy belated birthday to you but what a wonderful way to spend it, love to you all!! Missing you all so much 🩷🩷
